Swim for Refugees is a program teaching people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds in Perth, Western Australia to swim. What better way to welcome newcomers to our country, and teach vital life skills for living on the Swan River and Indian Ocean?
The project is a Students for Refugees initiative based at the University of Western Australia, started in 2016. It is run by volunteers, many of whom are university students. Since our inception in 2016, Swim for Refugees has taught over 100 people vital water safety and swimming skills, and engaged almost 70 volunteers.
Swim for Refugees is now in it’s third season, lessons running 14th October to the 9th December 2017.
